Christmas time has arrived again, and Christmas trees can be seen in any directions. In New Baltimore, the tree has been lit and is in the middle of main street to be seen by all. Many in St. Clair County have seen the yearly tradition, but most don’t know anything about it. Yes, it is a tree decorated for Christmas, but is there anything behind it?
This year, the tree that blocks off main street, was lit on December 5, 2005. There children and others from the community got to visit with Santa, have a sing-a-long, and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. Many come out for this event, and all that do, enjoy it very well.
The tree has been a tradition for over 20 years. The trees which stands about 30 feet tall and 20 feet wide, is donated by Ambets Post County Line. So the tree is in fact, a real tree. Everything for the tree is also donated. The community gets to see the tree shine it’s brightest for almost close to nothing. The only thing that is paid for is the labor to have the tree put up.
Because it is so big, the tree takes about one day to put it up.
